How to Relocate Cables for a Cleaner and Space-Saving LED Sign Installation
Mounting your LED signs closer together not only saves space but also creates a cleaner, more professional look. By efficiently relocating cables, you can achieve a streamlined installation without unnecessary clutter. Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure a neat and secure setup while maintaining proper power and signal connections.
Step 1: Remove the LED Module
Before accessing the cables, you’ll need to remove the LED module. Grab a 3mm Hex Key with a T-handle and place it in the two holes in the center to unlock the module. There’s one hole near the top and another near the bottom. Once unlocked, carefully remove the module.
For the main side, remove the two bottom left modules. On the secondary side, remove the second module from the left.
Step 2: Remove the Bottom Cover
Locate the four screws securing the bottom cover and use a Phillips screwdriver to remove them. If they are #1 Phillips screws, discard them and replace them with the #2 Phillips screws provided in your kit. Once the screws are removed, take off the cover and set it aside.
Step 3: Prepare the Cables
Identify the cables required for the main cabinet, including:
-
Antenna Cable
-
Sensor Cable
-
Power Cable
-
Signal Cable Pass these cables through the designated openings to prepare them for reconnection.
Step 4: Connect the Power Cable
To relocate the power cable:
-
Remove the power cable cover.
-
Loosen the terminal screws.
-
Remove the old power port and, if necessary, trim the cable ends for easier handling.
-
Reconnect the new power cable, following this wiring guide:
-
Black (Hot) to Hot
-
White (Neutral) to Neutral
-
Green (Ground) to Ground
-
-
Ensure cables are neatly aligned to allow for additional connections.
Step 5: Connect the Signal Cable
At the bottom of the cabinet, locate the two signal ports labeled 1 and 2:
-
Keep Signal Cable #1 connected to the control card.
-
Remove Signal Cable #2 (Ethernet cable connection).
-
Insert Signal Cable #1 into the second port on the video card.
-
Adjust any excess wire to prevent stretching or damage.
Step 6: Connect the Sensor Cable
Pull the sensor cable through its port. To replace the sensor:
-
Loosen the middle connector to remove the old sensor cable.
-
Align the new sensor cable pins and push it in.
-
If it doesn’t connect smoothly, twist while pushing until it clicks into place.
-
Secure the sensor connection.
Step 7: Connect the Antenna Cable
Pass the antenna cable through to the control card section and connect it to the PoE Adapter. Make sure you plug it into the PoE port, not the LAN port.
Step 8: Secure the Cables and Complete the First Side
At this stage, ensure all the following connections are secure:
-
Power Cable
-
Signal Cable
-
Sensor Cable
-
Antenna Cable Tighten the bottom cap and clean up any loose wires before proceeding to the other side.
Step 9: Repeat on the Opposite Side
Repeat the process for the secondary side:
-
Remove the bottom cover.
-
Pass the power and signal cables through.
-
Secure the cover.
-
Connect Signal Cable #1 to the corresponding port.
-
Reconnect the Power Cable following the same steps as before.
-
Flip the sign over to continue.
Step 10: Remove & Install the Blank Port
Remove the Power 1 port at the back of the sign and install a blank port to fill the slot. This ensures that no unnecessary openings remain, keeping the sign weatherproof and secure.
Step 11: Finalize Power Connections
Confirm that both power cables are properly terminated and securely connected to your junction box or breaker.
