Why Reposition the Sensor of the Outdoor LED Sign

1. What is the Ambient Light Sensor?
The Ambient Light Sensor automatically adjusts your LED sign's brightness based on the surrounding daylight conditions. During bright daylight, the display increases its brightness for maximum visibility. At night or during low-light conditions, the sensor reduces the brightness to improve viewing comfort, reduce glare, and comply with local sign brightness regulations.
Why is the Sensor Important?
For the automatic brightness feature to work correctly, the sensor must have a clear view of the sky so it can accurately detect ambient sunlight. If the sensor is blocked, shaded, or installed inside the cabinet, the sign may remain too dim or too bright because the sensor cannot accurately measure the surrounding light.
2. Correct Sensor Mounting
Proper Sensor Position
Install the sensor so that only the sensing lens extends above the top of the sign cabinet. The sensor should be centered between both sign faces where it has an unobstructed view of the sky.
The sensor should never be covered by trim pieces, side covers, or mounted underneath the cabinet.

Incorrect Sensor Mounting
Avoid the installation methods shown below. Any of these mounting positions can prevent the sensor from accurately detecting sunlight, causing improper automatic brightness adjustment.
- Do not mount the sensor underneath the sign where it hangs facing downward.
- Do not install the sensor behind the side covers or trim where sunlight is blocked.
- Do not recess the sensor deep between the two sign faces where it cannot see the sky.
- Do not cover the sensor with silicone, tape, trim, or any other obstruction.
Final Check
After installation, verify that:
- The sensor lens is facing upward.
- The sensing lens is exposed above the cabinet.
- The sensor has a clear view of the sky.
- No part of the cabinet or trim blocks sunlight from reaching the sensor.
- The sensor cable is securely connected to the controller.
