Setting Up an LED Sign Using a Direct LAN (Ethernet) Connection

Overview

This guide explains how to connect your LED sign to an in-house network using a direct Ethernet (LAN) connection, instead of a wireless antenna.

Step 1: Prepare for Setup

  • Confirm an active LAN line from the in-house router or antenna is available
  • Have the following ready:
    • Ethernet cable from the sign
    • Ethernet cable from the in-house network
    • Weather-proof RJ45-to-RJ45 coupler (required for outdoor connections)

Step 2: Connect LAN Cable to Laptop (Required for IP Setup)

Important: To change or assign the IP address, the LAN cable must be connected to a laptop or PC first.

  • Connect the LAN cable from the in-house antenna/router directly to the laptop/PC
  • Do not connect the cable to the sign yet
  • Power ON the sign

Step 3: Configure Network Settings on the Computer

  • Go to Control Panel → Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Center
  • Identify the Ethernet adapter connected to the LAN cable
  • Click Ethernet → Properties → Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)

Set the following:

  • IP Address: 192.168.0.11
  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Gateway: 192.168.0.1
  • DNS: 8.8.8.8

IPv4 Settings

Step 4: Reconnect LAN Cable to the Sign

  • Unplug the Ethernet cable from the laptop/PC
  • Connect:
    • The Ethernet cable from the sign
    • The LAN cable from the in-house network
  • Join both cables using a weather-proof RJ45-to-RJ45 coupler

⚠️ This coupler is required to protect the connection from moisture and outdoor exposure.

Step 5: Open ViPlex Express

  • Connect to Wi-Fi Network AP1000XXXX (ignore “No Internet”) via the Windows laptop
  • Password: SN2008@+
  • Download ViPlex Express on your PC (if within ~20 ft of the sign): Click here
  • Select Async Mode

Step 6: Set Up with ViPlex Handy (If the Sign Is Far Away)

  • Download ViPlex Handy: Android | iOS
  • Move closer to the sign
  • Connect to Wi-Fi Network AP1000XXXX (ignore “No Internet”)
  • Password: SN2008@+
  • Go to Screen Management → Network Settings → Wired Settings
  • Change Static to DHCP, save, then disconnect

Step 7: Verify Connection

  • Log in to your Vnnox account
  • Go to the Screens tab
  • Confirm the sign shows as Online

Step 8: Final Checks

  • RJ45 coupler is weather-proof and sealed
  • Ethernet cables are firmly connected
  • No IP conflicts exist on the network
  • Router/firewall is not blocking the static IP
