How to Enable Auto-Dimming on Your LED Sign
LED signs come standard with a built-in auto-brightness sensor to help your display stay visible in the day and comfortable at night. Depending on which software you’re using, the feature may already be enabled or may need to be turned on.
XM Player Users
-
Auto-dimming is preconfigured out of the box.
-
No additional setup required.
ViPlex Express or VNNOX Users
Step 1: Check Your Hardware
-
Look for the brightness sensor cable: a white cable with a 4-pin connector.
-
This should be plugged into the first port on your sign.
Step 2: Enable Auto-Brightness
-
Open your software and go to:
Terminal Control → Brightness. -
Switch the brightness setting to Smart.
-
Click the link to adjust the mapping table (this lets you set how the sign reacts to different light levels).
-
Save your settings and send them to the sign.
Step 3: Confirm the Sensor is Working
-
Go to:
Terminal Control → Sensor. -
Check that a brightness reading is displayed.
-
If you see a reading, your sensor is connected and working.
-
If no reading shows, double-check the cable connection.
-
Is Auto-Dimming Effective?
Yes. Auto-dimming ensures:
-
Daytime visibility — bright enough to compete with sunlight.
-
Nighttime comfort — dim enough to avoid glare or light pollution.
-
Energy efficiency — your sign only uses the brightness it needs.
Final Word
Your LED sign already has the hardware needed for auto-dimming. With XM Player, it works automatically. With ViPlex Express or VNNOX, just enable and confirm the sensor in your software settings.
This small setup step makes a big difference in your sign’s performance, safety, and efficiency.
