TP Link Reset Guide: How to Configure the TP LINK CPE210 and CPE510 with XM Player3

If you press and hold the Reset button on a TP‑Link CPE210 or CPE510 (or if you purchased antennas that were not pre‑configured), the device returns to its factory default settings. You will then need to manually configure one as an Access Point (AP) and the other as a Client to establish a point‑to‑point wireless link.

This guide walks you through the full setup process.

What You’ll Need

  • Two TP‑Link antennas

  • A Windows computer with an Ethernet port

  • Ethernet cables

  • Power over Ethernet (PoE) injectors (included with each antenna)

Step 1: Connect the Antenna to Your Computer

  1. Take the first antenna and connect it to your computer using an Ethernet cable.

    • Plug one end into your computer’s Ethernet port.

    • Plug the other end into the antenna’s LAN/PoE port.

    • If you’re using the PoE injector, connect it between the computer and the antenna according to the antenna’s manual.

  2. Power the antenna using the PoE injector. You should see indicator lights on the antenna.

Step 2: Set Your Computer to a Static IP (Factory Default Range)

  1. Open Control Panel → Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Center.

  2. Click Ethernet → Properties.

  3. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.

  4. Choose Use the following IP address and enter:

    • IP address: 192.168.0.127

    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

  5. Click OK and close all windows.

Step 3: Log In to the Antenna (Factory Default)

  1. Open a web browser and go to: http://192.168.0.254 (the default IP after reset).

  2. Log in with the default credentials:

    • Username: admin

    • Password: admin

  3. Agree to the terms (if prompted) and click Login.

  4. You will be asked to create a new username and password for the antenna.

    1. Choose

      1. Username: Signcity

      2. Password: signcity123

        1. This will become the permanent login for this device.

Step 4: Configure the Access Point (AP) Antenna

This antenna will later be mounted on the sign.

  1. In the antenna’s dashboard, go to Quick Setup.

  2. Select Access Point as the operation mode.

  3. Change the IP address to 192.168.1.254 (this puts it on the same subnet as the sign’s default IP).

  4. Create an SSID (network name) – we’ll use signcity as an example.

  5. Set Security to WPA-PSK and create a password (e.g., signcity123). Save these credentials – you’ll need them for the Client antenna.

  6. Click Next and wait for the antenna to save the configuration and reboot.

After reboot, the AP antenna is ready.

Step 5: Re‑configure Your Computer’s IP for the AP Antenna

  1. Go back to your computer’s Ethernet adapter settings (as in Step 2).

  2. Change the static IP address to 192.168.1.127 (keep the subnet mask 255.255.255.0).

  3. Click OK.

  4. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.254. Log in with the new username/password you set for the AP antenna. You should see the dashboard and can verify that the AP is working.

Step 6: Configure the Client Antenna

  1. Disconnect the AP antenna from your computer and set it aside.

  2. Connect the second (Client) antenna to your computer using the same method as Step 1.

  3. Reset your computer’s IP back to 192.168.0.127 (as in Step 2).

  4. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.0.254 (default IP again).

  5. Log in with admin / admin and create a new username/password for this antenna (you can reuse the same credentials as before).

  6. Go to Quick Setup and select Client as the operation mode.

  7. Change the IP address to 192.168.1.253.

  8. Enter the SSID you used for the AP antenna (signcity).

  9. Enter the security password you set for the AP antenna (signcity123).

  10. Click Next and wait for the antenna to save and reboot.

Step 7: Verify the Wireless Link

  1. Set your computer’s IP back to 192.168.1.127 (as in Step 5).

  2. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.253. Log in with the credentials you set for the Client antenna. You should see its dashboard.

  3. To confirm the two antennas are communicating:

    • Open Command Prompt.

    • Type: ping 192.168.1.254

    • You should receive replies from the AP antenna.

Step 8: Final Placement – Which Antenna Goes Where?

  • The Access Point (AP) antenna goes on the sign. Connect it to the sign’s Ethernet port using the PoE injector.

  • The Client antenna goes near your computer. Connect it to your PC’s Ethernet port (again with the PoE injector).

When the sign is powered on, the AP antenna (on the sign) will show LED activity lights (usually flashing or solid). This is a quick way to verify that the sign is providing power and data to the antenna.

Using a Single Antenna or Direct Cable Connection

The static IP method described in this guide is the same whether you are:

  • Connecting directly to the sign’s controller with an Ethernet cable (no antennas).

  • Using a single antenna (e.g., an Access Point connected to your computer, with the sign connected via cable or a second antenna).

  • Setting up a full point‑to‑point wireless link.

In all cases, set your computer’s Ethernet adapter to a static IP in the same subnet as the device you want to reach (192.168.1.x for the final network). Then open XM Player, go to Control → Search, and your sign should appear.
