Moving the Port Cabinet on a 3×3 LED Sign

1. Remove LED Modules

  • Remove all LED modules from the sign.

  • Set the modules aside in a safe, clean area where they will not be damaged.

2. Disconnect Power Between Cabinets

  • Locate the power jumper cable linking the two power terminals.

  • Disconnect this cable from the bottom row.

3. Document Data Cable Mapping (Critical Step)

  • Before disconnecting anything else, take clear photos of the flat ribbon data cables connected to the video card.

  • These photos must clearly show which video card ports feed each column.

Required Mapping to Avoid Reprogramming

If the cables are reinstalled in the same order listed below, no programming will be required:

  • J1 – J3 → Middle row

  • J4 – J6 → Left row (when viewing from the front)

  • J16 – J14 → Right row (when viewing from the front)

If the cables go back into the same ports in the same order, the sign configuration remains unchanged.

  • Once documented, disconnect the flat ribbon cables from the video card.

4. Cabinet Positioning Note

  • Moving the port cabinet to the left (when viewing from the back) provides enough slack to reuse the original cables.

  • Moving it to the right may work, but the cables will be tight and new cables may be required.

5. Remove X-Bracket (Lower Only)

  • Using a 17 mm socket, remove the M10 bolts securing the X-bracket.

  • Remove only the two lower brackets (marked).

6. Remove Bottom Row Cabinets

  • Using a 13 mm or 14 mm wrench, remove the M8 bolts holding the bottom row to the sign.

  • Important:
It is strongly recommended to remove all flat ribbon cables before removing the bottom row.
These cables will need to be rerouted in at least two sections after the conversion.

  • Carefully remove the bottom row.

7. Unlock Side Cabinets

  • Using a 13 mm / 14 mm ratchet, remove the bolts securing the side cabinets.

  • Once unlocked, remove the enclosed side covers.

8. Gasket Inspection (During Reassembly)

When reinstalling:

  • Each middle seam must have an open metal gasket.

  • Ensure rubber gaskets remain in place between cabinets.

  • After full reassembly:

    • Verify rubber gaskets are intact around all edges.

    • Reinstall the enclosed side covers.

9. Prepare for Bottom Row Reinstallation

  • Before reinstalling the bottom row:

    • Confirm all cable passages are open.

    • Confirm gaskets are properly seated.

10. Reinstall Bottom Row and Brackets

  • Reinstall the bottom row using the M8 bolts.

  • Reinstall the two lower rear brackets removed earlier.

11. Reconnect Power

  • Reconnect the power terminal.

  • If the original cable is too short, use a new equivalent power cable.

  • Ensure all terminal connections are tight.

Power Wiring Verification

Confirm the following before proceeding:

  • Hot → Hot

  • Neutral → Neutral

  • Ground → Ground

12. Reconnect Data Cables

  • Reroute and reconnect the flat ribbon cables using the same port mapping documented earlier.

  • Double-check all connections carefully.

13. Reinstall LED Modules

  • Reinstall all LED modules.

  • Power on the sign.

14. If Mapping Changed

  • If the video card ports are not mapped exactly the same as before:

    • Make a note of which port feeds each module.

    • Contact us to schedule a session to reconfigure the sign.
