LED Sign 4G Connectivity FAQs: Data Usage, Setup, SIM Cost & Requirements
When is a 4G connection needed?
A 4G connection is used when the LED sign does not have access to:
- On-site Wi-Fi
- A wired internet connection
This allows remote content updates without relying on the customer’s network.
How much data does an LED sign use per month?
LED signs use minimal data because they do not:
- Browse the internet
- Stream video
- Run background applications
Typical usage:
- Up to 5GB per month
How does the sign connect to a 4G network?
All LED signs from LED Sign City are supplied with an antenna.
For 4G setups:
- A 4G-compatible antenna is provided
- A SIM card is pre-installed inside the antenna
- The system connects automatically once powered
Do I need to request 4G in advance?
Yes.
Please notify us before production or shipping so we can:
- Provide a 4G-compatible antenna
- Configure the system accordingly
What network is used?
The SIM operates on a partner network within the United States.
If coverage is not reliable at your installation location, you may be required to:
- Use your own SIM card
- Set up an alternative internet connection
What is the cost of the 4G SIM subscription?
- First year: Included at no cost
- After first year: $599 annually
What happens if there is a network issue?
- SIM-related issues may be supported with replacement SIM cards
- Remote troubleshooting is included
Not covered by LED Sign City:
- Labor to access the sign
- Unplugging or reconnecting the antenna
- On-site testing of connectivity
These services would require a technician or a service visit.
Can I use my own SIM card?
Yes.
If you choose to use your own SIM:
- The $599 annual fee is waived
- You are responsible for:
- Data plan
- Network compatibility
- Troubleshooting connectivity
Which option is better?
- LED Sign City SIM → Pre-configured, simpler setup
- Customer-provided SIM → More flexibility, but requires management
Important Notes
- 4G service must be requested in advance
- Signal strength depends on coverage at the installation site
- If the partner network is not supported or reliable in your area, a customer-provided connection is recommended
