Angular Frame and Shroud Guidelines

Pole

This illustration shows the support poles and concrete foundation used for a typical double-sided LED sign installation. The poles provide the primary structural support for the frame, LED display, and any associated lightbox components.

Frame Angle Iron

This illustration shows the structural frame installed between the support poles. The horizontal angle iron members create the mounting surface for the LED display and transfer the sign load to the pole structure.

LED Display

This illustration shows the LED display mounted to the structural frame. The exposed pole extensions above the display allow installation of a lightbox or cabinet extension where applicable.

LED Sign With Light Box

This illustration shows the completed sign assembly with the LED display and lightbox installed on the support structure. The remaining distance between the sign and grade level is also shown for reference.

Mounting Specs

This drawing identifies the factory-installed mounting points located on the rear of the LED display cabinet. These mounting points are used to secure the display to the structural frame using L-brackets and mounting hardware.

Angle Iron Measurement

This drawing provides the frame dimensions and spacing required to align the structural frame with the sign mounting points.

Frame dimensions and angle iron spacing

Frame Construction Standard

For signs up to 5' x 10' double-sided:

Perimeter Frame:

  • 2" square tube
  • 1/8" wall thickness
  • Used for top, bottom, and side framing members

Vertical Supports / Sign Mounts:

  • 2" x 2" x 3/16" angle iron
  • Used for uprights and primary sign mounting structure

Connection Plates:

  • Minimum 3/16" steel plate
  • Used for pole attachments and structural connections

Fabrication:

  • Fully welded construction preferred where fabricated locally

Recommended Capacity:

  • Standard frame design suitable for signs up to approximately 5' x 10' double-sided.

Large Sign Standard

For signs exceeding 5' x 10' double-sided:

  • Upgrade structural members to 3" x 3" x 3/16" steel

Pole Retrofit Guidelines

When retrofitting existing poles:

Preferred Method:

  • Utilize structural angle iron mounting brackets
  • Utilize all-thread mounting hardware
  • Existing poles may not provide sufficient access or surface area for large plate connections

New Pole Installations:

  • Use minimum 3/16" steel mounting plates
  • Welded plate connections preferred

Ventilation Requirements

Shrouds and side covers must not create a sealed enclosure around the sign.

Recommended approaches:

  • Perforated side covers
  • Expanded metal mesh
  • Ventilation gaps where appropriate

For double-sided signs, maintain adequate spacing between sign faces to allow natural airflow through the structure.

Design Objectives

All frame and shroud designs should:

  • Support the sign safely under expected wind loads
  • Allow access for future servicing
  • Promote airflow and heat dissipation
  • Match the depth and appearance of the surrounding structure when applicable
  • Utilize readily available materials for future maintenance and replacement

Side Cover Measurement

This drawing provides the dimensions of the side covers and shrouds used to conceal the support structure while maintaining a finished appearance.

Shroud and side cover dimensions

Shroud / Side Cover Standard

Current standard construction utilizes:

  • 4 mm Alucobond (ACP) panels
  • Black finish
  • CNC-cut fabrication

Standard Recommendation

Unless otherwise specified by engineering or customer requirements:

  • 4 mm Alucobond side covers
  • 2" square tube (1/8" wall) perimeter frame
  • 2" x 2" x 3/16" angle uprights
  • 3/16" minimum plate steel
  • Fully welded construction
  • Ventilated side covers or open-air design

Real-World Mounting Reference

The images below show real-world examples of how the LED display cabinet is mounted to the structural frame using L-brackets and bolted connections during installation.

Real-world LED sign support frame example

The support frame provides the structural mounting points required to securely attach the LED sign cabinet during installation.

L-bracket connection between LED sign cabinet and structural frame

The L-brackets secure the LED sign cabinet to the support frame using bolted mounting points. The same mounting concept is applied across tubular frame installations depending on the final pole and support configuration.

LED sign attached to structural support frame before installation

Once assembled, the sign can be lifted and mounted onto the final wall or pole structure as part of the installation process.

Real-World Shroud Reference

This example shows completed shroud and side cover installations. The shroud conceals the support structure and creates a finished appearance while maintaining adequate airflow around the display.
