XM Player Overview
This video provides a quick overview of the XM player software. By the end, you should have a general idea of:
File Menu (File F)
-
New Ad – Start a new program.
-
Open – Load a previously created ad to edit it.
-
Save / Save As – Save your work. Use “Save As” to make a copy.
-
Send Current Program – After you’ve finished creating content, use this to upload it to your sign.
-
Preview – See how your ad will look on the sign before sending.
2. Control Menu (Control D)
This menu is for connecting to and managing your sign.
-
Search for Devices – After setting up your network (see our antenna connection guide), click this to find your sign. The software will import the sign’s IP address.
-
Screen On / Off – Turns the display dark (the sign stays powered, but stops playing content).
-
Brightness – Manually adjust brightness. Most signs we ship include an auto‑brightness sensor, so you may not need this.
-
Main Time – Update the sign’s internal clock. Use this twice a year for daylight saving time to keep schedules and displayed time accurate.
-
Restart Screen – Reboot the sign’s controller.
-
Format SD Card – If a program becomes corrupted or the sign behaves erratically, formatting the SD card gives you a clean slate.
-
Modify IP – Change the sign’s IP address. (If you need to connect the sign to a different network, we can help with this.)
-
Sensor Backward Read – View the current temperature and brightness readings from the sign’s sensor.
For network‑related settings (Server Setup, Wi‑Fi), please contact us – we can assist remotely to avoid configuration errors.
3. Creating Content – Program Pages
When you start a new ad, you work with Program Pages (similar to slides in PowerPoint).
-
Name – Give each page a descriptive name (e.g., “Happy Hour”) to keep your files organized.
-
Play – Choose how long the page is displayed:
-
Play once – moves to the next page immediately.
-
Seconds – set a custom duration for that page.
-
-
Height / Width – Crucial! Set these to match your sign’s pixel resolution (e.g., 128x224 for a common 4x7 P10 sign). Your invoice or diagram will have this information. The preview window will then accurately reflect the shape of your sign.
4. Adding Elements to Your Program Page
Use the Multi‑function window (or separate element windows) to add content.
-
File Window – Import images, videos, GIFs, PowerPoint presentations, or pre‑created RTF text files. All files in a file window will play one after another.
-
Text Window – Type or import text. Use Simple Text for quick messages or Scrolling Text for a stock‑ticker effect.
-
Table – Create tables with rows and columns (useful for price lists).
-
Clock / Digital Clock – Display time and date. Choose analog or digital style.
-
Sensor – Show the current temperature (from the sign’s built‑in sensor).
-
Timer – Set a countdown or count‑up (e.g., “5 days until event” or “30 days since last incident”).
You can drag, resize, and position elements directly in the preview window.
