Steps to Change the IP Address of Your Sign in XM Player

Sign Network Setup & IP Configuration Guide

Use this guide to locate your sign on the network, set a correct IP/subnet, verify connectivity with XM Player, and reset to factory defaults if needed.

Quick Basics

Typical defaults

  • Default Sign IP: 192.168.1.128
  • PC Static IP (example): 192.168.1.127
  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

“No Internet” on the Sign City Wi-Fi is normal; it’s a local network for configuring the sign.

Access Terminal & Server List (XM Player)

1) Open Terminal & Server List

  1. Open XM Player.
  2. Go to FileSend Current Program.
This opens the Terminal & Server List window automatically.

2) Locate the IP Address

  1. Browse the device list and click the IP for your sign.

3) Set IP & Subnet Mask

  1. With the sign selected, click ConfigSet IP.
  2. Enter the new IP Address and Subnet Mask for your network (e.g., 192.168.1.128 & 255.255.255.0).

4) Verify Subnet Mask

Do not leave the subnet as 0.0.0.0. Confirm it matches your network (usually 255.255.255.0).

Set a Static IP on Your Computer (Windows)

1) Open Control Panel

  1. Click Start, type Control Panel, and press Enter.

2) Network Settings

  1. Network and InternetNetwork and Sharing Center.
  2. Click Change adapter settings (left sidebar).

3) Identify the Correct Ethernet Port

  1. Right-click Ethernet. If using USB-to-Ethernet or multiple ports, unplug the antenna, wait for Windows to update, then plug it back in to see which port activates.
  2. Right-click the active port → Properties.

4) Configure IP Address

  1. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)Properties.
  2. Switch to Use the following IP address.
  3. Enter:
    • IP address: 192.168.1.127
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 (usually fills automatically)

5) Save Settings

  1. Click OK, then Close.

Verify Antenna Link

Return to XM Player and connect to your sign. Confirm both antennas (access point and client) show full indicator lights:

  • Power + LAN only means the antenna is powered/PC-linked but not yet wirelessly linked.
  • Both units should show link/activity lights to indicate a proper connection.

Reset to Factory Default IP

If configuration fails or is interrupted, reset the controller:

  1. Access the sign’s controller.
  2. Press and hold the “Test” button for 30 seconds.
  3. Release to restore the default IP: 192.168.1.128.
  4. Reconnect on the Sign City network and repeat setup as needed.

Quick Checklist

  • Correct subnet used (e.g., 255.255.255.0), no 0.0.0.0.
  • PC static IP set (e.g., 192.168.1.127) while configuring.
  • XM Player shows your device in the Terminal & Server List.
  • Antennas show link/activity lights on both units.
  • If needed, a factory reset is performed and the steps are repeated.
