Case Study: Connecting an LED Sign to the Internet and Publishing Content

Objective: This guide provides a detailed approach to helping customers program their antenna, verify network settings, and connect and publish content to an LED sign using VNNOX. This case is based on a recent successful support call.

Background: Miss Deanna needed to bring her LED sign online, located at a city park, and configure it for content display. The process required ensuring that the antenna was correctly configured and powered, and the sign was connected to the VNNOX platform.

Step 1: Verifying Antenna Connection

  1. Initial Network Check:

    • The network should be configured to "SignCity." If "SignCity" is not visible, check for the network "CPE-XXXX" (CPE followed by some numbers).
    • If neither "SignCity" nor "CPE-XXXX" is visible, it suggests that the antenna is not powered on.
  2. Verify Antenna Power:

    • Ensure that the antenna is plugged into the correct port on the sign.
    • Check that the lights on the front of the antenna are lit. If they are not, the antenna may not be receiving power.

Step 2: Programming the Antenna

  1. Accessing Antenna Settings:

    • If "CPE-XXXX" is available, connect to it.
    • Open a web browser and navigate to 172.16.0.1 to access the antenna’s settings.
    • Log in using the default credentials (admin/admin).
  2. Network Setup:

    • Use the setup wizard to select "4G Mode."
    • Rename the Wi-Fi network to "SignCity" and set a secure password (e.g., SignCity123).
    • Save and reconnect to the "SignCity" network.
  3. APN Configuration:

    • In the APN settings, enable manual configuration.
    • Set the APN name to VZWInternet and apply the changes.
    • The antenna will reboot, and the sign should be connected to the internet.

Step 3: Connecting to VNNOX

  1. Logging into VNNOX:

    • Go to us.vnox.com and log in using your credentials.
    • Verify that your sign (player) is listed under "Screens" and shows as online.
  2. Uploading Content:

    • Navigate to the "Content" section in VNNOX.
    • Upload your pre-designed ads (e.g., from Canva) to the content library.
  3. Creating a Solution:

    • Create a new solution by selecting "Regular Solution" under "Solutions."
    • Add your player and set the screen size.
    • Add slides by selecting media (images/videos) and configuring them to full screen.
    • Publish the solution to the sign.

Step 4: Adjusting Brightness Settings

  1. Auto Brightness Configuration:

    • Access "Terminal Control" under the AP network in VNNOX.
    • Verify that the brightness sensor is functioning correctly and that the sign adjusts brightness automatically based on ambient light.
  2. Manual Brightness Adjustment:

    • If needed, adjust brightness manually in VNNOX to ensure it suits both day and night conditions.

Conclusion: By following these steps, Miss Deanna successfully brought her LED sign online, connected it to the VNNOX platform, and configured it for content display. This guide provides a clear, repeatable process for other customers facing similar challenges, ensuring effective and efficient sign management.
